Horror run continues as star's season-ending injury deepens Dragons' crisis

St George Illawarra's grim 2026 season has taken another hit, with one of the club's most important forwards ruled out for the year after surgery.

The Dragons confirmed on Wednesday that their preferred middle-third forward will miss the remainder of the NRL season after undergoing surgery this week, a fresh blow for interim head coach Dean Young.

The injury comes just days after the Red V finally broke a 295-day losing streak with a win over Brisbane, a result Young described as 'four weeks in the making'.

Club football boss Ben Haran said the side would not be looking to the open market for an immediate replacement, preferring instead to promote from the NSW Cup squad and 'reward the work that's been done at Kogarah'.

St George Illawarra hosts the Sydney Roosters at WIN Stadium on Saturday night, with a sell-out crowd expected despite the club sitting near the foot of the ladder.
