After the storm, comes the clean-up: crews descend on Illawarra beaches

Wollongong City Council crews have spent the week clearing debris and reshaping eroded dunes after a weekend of king tides and powerful southerly swells.

Council has confirmed that beach clean-up operations are continuing at North Wollongong, Towradgi, Bulli and Austinmer following the weekend storm event.

Heavy machinery has been deployed to remove tonnes of organic debris from access tracks, while dune fencing is being re-staked at several locations.

Lifeguards have warned swimmers to take extra care in coming days, with submerged debris and shifting sandbanks creating dangerous conditions at popular surf beaches.

Residents are being asked to report any damaged infrastructure or hazards via Council's 24-hour customer service line.
