The Independent Commission Against Corruption confirmed on Tuesday it would investigate alleged conflict of interest and procurement breaches at the University of Wollongong, including senior executives and members of its governing council.

Chancellor Michael Still has been named in the investigation, which is expected to examine appointments, contract awards and the relationships between senior leaders and outside consultants over a five-year period.

In a statement, the university said it had cooperated fully with the watchdog and would continue to do so. 'We welcome the inquiry as an opportunity to demonstrate the strength of our governance,' a spokesperson said.

Staff and student representatives have called for an interim independent chair while the investigation runs. Public hearings are expected to begin later this year.
